SureLock
Switches Designed To Reduce Truck Rolls
For xDSL Service
Cornet Technology, Inc. Is Designing a New Switch to Simplify Testing
of xDSL Services and Facilities
June 8, 1999 Atlanta, GA Cornet Technology, Inc. announced today the
SL-2000 a new test/access switch for the xDSL market. The SL-2000,
part of Cornet Technology, Inc's new SureLock Series, is designed
to provide full xDSL line test capability from the central office
to limit the need to dispatch technicians when a failure is reported.
Within the hot xDSL market, there is a need to pre-qualify subscriber
loops for a given xDSL service, test provisioning service, and troubleshoot
and monitor existing service. The SL-2000 is an intelligent platform
that automates a variety of xDSL test access functions and improves
the availability of the network elements that provide xDSL service.
Cornet Technology, Inc's approach to xDSL test access emphasizes a
vendor independent solution, giving network planners maximum flexibility
in selecting the best test head configuration for their current requirements.
"The goal of the SL-2000 is to minimize truck rolls by providing a
simple and efficient way of testing xDSL services from a central site,"
said Bob Tilitsky, product manager for Telecommunication Products
at Cornet Technology, Inc. "By performing this function, the SL-2000
will provide its customers with a competitive advantage in the speed
of xDSL deployment, allow them to leverage existing investment in
field test resources, and provide an efficient, flexible platform
for further automation of their entire system."
The SL-2000 is an Electro-mechanical relay-based switching system,
with the ability to support up to 384-xDSL loops with four-vendor
independent four-wire test access busses in each chassis. The system
will allow multiple chassis to be chained together to support larger
configurations.
Functions to be included in the SL-2000 design include:
 |
Metallic Test Access |
 |
Loop Qualification |
 |
Test/Monitor Functions |
 |
Loop Testing/Troubleshooting |
 |
Access Equipment Testing |
 |
DSLAM Sparing |
 |
Temporary Moves, Adds, and Changes |
 |
Audible Loop Identification |
 |
Sealing Current |
Customer testing of the SL-2000 is scheduled for third quarter FY99
and full release in the fourth quarter FY99.
Cornet Technology, Inc., headquartered in Northern Virginia, is a
privately held corporation. The company designs and manufactures vendor-independent
hardware switching tools for effectively managing networks. These
tools, which can be distributed throughout the network and are software
manageable from a central site, extend the reach of the operations
support team. Cornet Technology, Inc. has four sales/service locations
in North America, fully owned subsidiaries in Frankfurt, Germany (Cornet
Technology GmbH) and Tokyo, Japan (NCKK), and branch offices in London
and Singapore.
